Senator Anthony Palumbo Announces Re-Election Bid for New York State Senate

Senator Anthony H. Palumbo (R,C-New Suffolk) announced that he is running for re-election to the  New York State Senate. Senator Palumbo has represented the First Senatorial District for four years. Previously he served in the New York State Assembly from 2013-2020, and began his career in public service as a prosecutor in the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.

“It has been my honor to represent the men and women of the First Senate District in the New York State Senate,” said Senator Palumbo. “As Senator, I will continue my efforts to make Suffolk County a safer and more affordable place to call home. I will also work to address the myriad issues impacting our region from property tax stabilization and the skyrocketing cost of living, to environmental protection, water quality, state school aid and transportation funding for the diverse communities I represent.”

Senator Palumbo currently serves as the Deputy Republican Floor Leader and is the ranking member on the Senate Codes and Judiciary Committees. He is also a member of the Senate Ethics, Environmental Conservation, Investigations and Government Operations and Mental Health Committees.

“The hyper partisan climate in state government has its challenges, but I have worked hard to reach across the aisle and deliver results for residents of the 1st Senate District. I am extremely proud of my efforts to expand access to safe drinking water, establish the Community Housing Fund to create affordable workforce housing, enact a deer management bill for the Town of Southold, and the pass the Montaukett Recognition bill, despite repeated vetoes by New York’s Governors,” said Senator Palumbo.

“These legislative accomplishments are important to our region. Yet equally important is my role as a member of the Republican Senate Conference. A strong opposition is needed to counter one-party rule in New York State, especially regarding Albany’s pro-crime and economic policies that have made the State and Long Island less safe and less affordable,” said the Senator.

“As your Senator, I will continue fighting for Suffolk County’s fair share of state education aid and transportation funding to make certain that Long Island’s growing needs are met and that homeowners are not faced with astronomical hikes to already excessive property taxes. Additionally, I will work tirelessly to protect our suburban tax dollars and keep them from being siphoned into New York City to deal with the crises City leadership has created,” concluded Palumbo.

Senator Palumbo has received broad support in his re-election campaigns for Senate and in 2022 was endorsed by numerous law enforcement, labor unions and business organizations including: Suffolk County Police Superior Officers, North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, Transport Workers Union of America, CSEA, New York State Public Employees Federation, Police Conference of New York, New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), Suffolk County Correction Officers Association, The Building and Construction Trades Council of Nassau and Suffolk Counties, Long Island Federation of Labor, New York State AFL-CIO, New York Business Council, PBA of New York State, New York City PBA, Suffolk County PBA, NFIB New York PAC, Suffolk Association of Municipal Employees (AME), and the Long Island Gasoline Retailers Association.

The 1st Senate District includes the northern portion of the Town of Brookhaven and the five East End Towns of East Hampton, Riverhead, Shelter Island, Southampton and Southold.
